Why ya gotta hate?

I live in Virginia and work in downtown DC. When I talk to people from DC or Maryland, they got nothing but hate for VA. I once made the mistake of asking a DC resident if he lived in Virginia, which prompted a 15 minute tirade on how there was no point to living there, it wasn't any cheaper, it was far away from everything, and furthermore, the people that lived there were stupid.

I mean honestly! I live a 6 minute drive from DC, are we really that different? Man alive. People need to find something else to get all in a huff about.

I'll even admit that DC has much better night life. You'd never hear a DC resident say one nice thing about Virginia, though. The city doth protest too much, methinks...

All of them--every last one--will move to Arlington or Alexandria to have a house before having kids, and then they will move to Fairfax county to school the little yuppie larvae. And they'll start voting for whatever gaybashing Republican is promising to execute people who don't clean up their lawn. It's the Yuppie life cycle, timeless and inevitable.

Sometimes they have to rage against their fate.

Cheer up, DCites! When you do move out here, you'll have access to the best ethnic restaurants in the area. You will have to learn how to read a map, though.

I got the same things when I lived in Brooklyn. I loved living in VA, but don't tell them how nice it is to have a comfortable home in a quiet clean safe neighborhood in a state where I get to vote for a congressperson, two senators, and a governor. Keep their begrudging opinions on the other side of the river.
