At least dirty on my closet floor wouldn't have set me back $20

I went to the cleaners today to pick up two white coats I'd dropped off. One looked pretty good, but the other one didn't look like it'd been touched! I complained that it was still dirty, and the proprietor said, "The stains were probably set. If it sat in your closet for a long time, they're just not going to come out."

Unfortunately, the coat had sat dirty in my closet and we both knew it. I had wadded it up and stuffed it under a shelf and forgot about it - two years ago. I wanted him to at least try to fix it, though!

So instead of admitting that my procrastination and not necessarily his incompetence had led to this point, I said, "Well, this is so bad! I can't wear it, it's embarrassing!"

Not helpful. He just got mad and said, "This coat was EMBARRASSING when you brought it in. At least now there's been some improvement."

Sigh. He's right. I think I'm just going to do what I saw my mom do when she wanted to get an ink stain out of my khaki pants: take to it with diluted Spray 'N Wash and a toothbrush.

I am surprised he charged you for it, that doesn't seem right. That's too bad though, it wasn't the one you were wearing at home was it?

Yes, the same coat. It doesn't look worse, it just doesn't look better.

The shop is at 12th & G. They did a good job with the other coat, I wouldn't write them off completely. Although I won't go there again myself.
