I'm back in class as of last week, stupidly taking Arabic in a condensed summer session. It's SO DIFFICULT. It's just going too fast for me. I tried to drop the class yesterday, but I was a day too late for a refund.
However, I seem to have landed myself a tutor in the form of the native-speaker who sits next to me, so I'll get through it. I apparently have some kind of homing instinct for people who can help me when I get in a class that's a little over my head. But when the tables are turned and I'm the one who understands more than someone else, I run for the hills! I don't participate in group study sessions for fear I'll have to explain concepts to someone else and not learn anything myself. So selfish!
So that's that... it's been super hot here, like the rest of the country, but I kind of love it. On the hottest days earlier this week the humidity was low, so it just felt warm and good. I pulled my blinds, turned on some fans, and laid around my house like an overheated cat. I went to the pool and lounged for hours, too.
Our community pool got water slides this year and those are so fun, though I have to admit, traipsing around the place stuffed into a too-small bikini and slapping my big body down on the slide in front of the tiny lifeguards and the world is a little much sometimes. It's not like I really care, but I know I look at people, so I know I'm being looked at. And judged. Oh well.
I got a new floor lamp for my living room... my car is running great, and more covered in dings than ever... I haven't been out on the town in quite some time, I'm kind of bored with it... I'm going home in early August for my 10 year high school reunion... I discovered soy milk is actually pretty good-tasting, and has lots of fiber and protein... I read the book THEM by Jon Ronson (at the behest of Jason Lefkowitz) last week and would recommend it to everyone, it's a great read... Mindy recently had a fantastic birthday BBQ... I took a motorcycle class and (barely) passed... yeah, I'll write more about that little episode tomorrow.
So that's what I've been up to!

welcome to the wonderous world that is soy milk! hurray! :)
a) why anyone would want to learn Arabic is beyond me.
b) how do all the people w/the really new expensive cars keep from getting dinged up?
3) I bought soy milk once @ M accused me of trying to be trendy. But I really didn't like it that much anyway, kinda thick.
d) you may not be cut out for 2 wheel travel. I remember your traffic- you might end up as road pizza. Glad to see you could take time out from laying around the pool to blog. Don't the little kids keep trying to push you back in the water? ;-)
Ginger, I am not kidding you I almost died from heat stroke the other day. You might think I am exaggerating but you wouldn't if you could have seen me. It was Saturday when I swear the high hit 100, and it was coupled with the fact that I was pretty hung over, but my skin started tingling all over (especially weirdly enough in my face), then I started feeling like I was going to throw up at any second, and the worst part was when the muscles in my face started tensing up (most notably in my upper lip). It was an awful feeling. I couldn't talk, walk, nothing. I love hot weather too, but that was too much to bear.
Do you know if soy has the same amount of calcium as milk?
heya fellow arabic learning buddy.
keefik! ana ah bal!
About the soy milk: I don't know if they all are, but the one I'm drinking now is fortified. So yes, a cup has about 30% DV of calcium, same as cow's milk.
to make up for the growth hormones in the milk, i take a dip in the potomac every once in a while. get my fill of additives. then i dont feel so neglectful drinking only soy milk.
Dad! I just realized you numbered your comments like Buzz.
Woof!
Just discovered vanilla soy milk, great with coffee.
