This is awkward

My organization is remodeling our floor and apparently decided to use a construction company that's being picketed. So, I have to walk through this every day at lunch when I leave the building:

It's a little uncomfortable (not to mention embarrassing) maneuvering around a loudly-chanting picket line looking like a bad guy. It kind of makes me wonder what kind of a construction company we've hired anyway - are they non-union? are they union but mistreat their employees? Who knows, and I'm loath to pull one of the picketers aside to ask.

My favorite, though, is the story-tall inflatable rat they bring every day, strapped to the back of an S-10 parked across the street. You can kind of see it in the background:

From what I've heard, the picketers around here are not usually the ones that were actually working for the construction company, or even for the union. Construction workers and carpenters can make good money elsewhere, so the unions hire "unskilled" people to be pickets for them.

That rat is REALLY gross. What is on it's stomach?

Oh my God Ginger. I never would have even noticed it's stomach if you NASTYS didn't have to point it out. Seriously, I can't even think about it and am so mad at you right now. Delete your comment please. And also, why were you soooo close to the picketers? If you were really that uncomfortable around them you wouldn't have been in their faces snapping pictures I guess.

They are literally a foot and a half away from the front door of my building on the sidewalk. Screaming.
