Wow! He's really gonna do it

I don't know if I've mentioned my friend Amani on here before, but she is a friend I made while we were both living in Germany. We've both moved back to our respective countries (hers being Palestine), but we still keep in touch via that glorious invention and my favorite part of the cyber world by far, instant messenger. Anyway, one evening we were talking and she said, "My friend Omar is online, want to meet him?" Sure, so we all were chatting and I've kept in touch with him here and there.

Omar recently found out he had passed his TOEFL and gotten a visa and is going to be able to come study in the United States. One part of that process was having to go into Jerusalem to pick up his visa at the American embassy. He was actually a little worried about being caught because Palestinians are not allowed in the city, period. Isn't that strange? He lives really close and officially in the same country but he can't go in Jerusalem, ever. I know that's just how it is over there, but it was still weird when he told me.

Anyway, I told him he should move to DC when he comes because we've got a lot of good schools around here and plus he'd have a built-in friend. He seemed to think that was a good idea and we left it at that. Then just today he actually called me, all the way from Palestine, to talk about what he needed to do to really move here. Unfortunately, I was really busy at work today so I couldn't talk right then and we didn't work out any details, but I think it's great. And it's neat how everyone wants to come to America. Yeah, it's great over here, and you know you all love us cos we're so dang nice and cute.
